Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and how we keep it safe.
What we collect
- Library account data — name, contact information, account number, borrowing history, and holds (stored within BiblioCommons and the underlying library system)
- Event registration — events you have registered for, attendance check-ins
- Website analytics — anonymous, aggregate visit data (no individual tracking)
- Donation processing — handled entirely by CanadaHelps; SSPL receives only the donor name and amount needed to issue a tax receipt
How we use it
- Provide library services — circulation, holds, renewals, and notifications
- Send programming-related communications (you may opt out at any time)
- Plan branch services and programs based on aggregate, de-identified statistics
- Comply with the Nova Scotia Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPOP) and the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA)
What we don't do
- Sell or rent patron data to third parties
- Track patrons across the web with advertising pixels
- Store payment card data on SSPL servers — CanadaHelps and any future processor handle payments directly
- Share borrowing history except where required by law and with appropriate process
Your rights
- Request a copy of your library account data at any time
- Correct any errors in your account
- Close your account and have your borrowing history deleted (subject to clearing any outstanding items)
- Email info@ssplibraries.ca — requests are honoured within 30 days
